Rai was born in Mangalore, in the South Indian state of Karnataka, to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. Rai has one elder brother, Aditya Rai who is a film producer. Aishwarya married Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007. Aishwarya’s obvious beauty has also been the subject of international focus: She is the former 1994 Miss World title holder, and 60 Minutes claimed that she has “The Most Beautiful Face in the

World. Aishwarya’s seemingly permanent place on the “worlds beautiful women lists” is a testament to her enduring popularity with fans and critics alike, and it seems obvious that her appeal is only destined to grow in the years to come (particularly with her recent promotions in Canada and Cannes). Her father, a merchant navy officer, relocated the family to Mumbai (formerly Bombay) when Aishwarya was four years old. Though it scarcely seems possible, 2007 just might be Aishwarya’s busiest year to date. In 2004 a wax figure of Rai went on display in London’s Madame Tussaud’s wax museum - a true measure of fame! The reigning queen of Indian cinema, and also a classically trained dancer, Rai has starred in 24 films over the last seven years. She is set to hit the big time in the western world due to her role in The Pink Panther 2, her first big budget english language film for which she has just started filming this month with Steve Martin.
